Indonesia’s Energy Minister Signals Stronger Fuel Reserves and Storage Expansion, with PT OTK Playing a Strategic Role in National Energy Security

KARIMUN, Indonesia – April 13, 2026 – The PT Oil Terminal Karimun (OTK) notes the recent public statements by Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, confirming that Indonesia has successfully navigated a critical period in global fuel markets and continues to strengthen its national energy resilience.

As highlighted by the Minister, Indonesia’s fuel storage capacity – historically limited to approximately 21–25 days – is being expanded through additional infrastructure, with PT Oil Terminal Karimun playing a key role in supporting incremental storage capacity. These developments are expected to support an increase in national reserves toward one month of supply, with longer-term ambitions to further expand strategic storage capacity.

The strengthening of physical storage capacity has been explicitly identified by the government as a core pillar of national energy security, with infrastructure expansion and private-sector participation playing a central role in achieving this objective.

Within this framework, OTK represents critical strategic infrastructure underpinning Indonesia’s energy system. Located in a key regional trading corridor, the terminal provides essential storage capacity, operational flexibility, and connectivity to international supply chains. Its role is fundamental to enabling buffer capacity, supply continuity, and market responsiveness during periods of global volatility.

Recent market developments have further reinforced the strategic importance of Karimun as a regional hub. More specifically, it has emerged as a key energy security asset for Indonesia, strengthening the country’s resilience to global supply disruptions and further integrating it into the national energy infrastructure.

OTK remains firmly aligned with Indonesia’s long-term energy security agenda. Through its infrastructure and operations, the terminal continues to contribute directly to strengthening national reserves and enhancing system resilience.

As Indonesia advances its strategy to expand storage capacity and reinforce energy security, OTK will continue to play a central and enabling role in supporting these strategic national objectives.
